Getting the froth right: making a café-style mushroom latte at home
Rainbow Dust is the blend that turned mushroom coffee from a health-shop curiosity into a mainstream drink, and most of that comes down to one thing: it's built to be a latte, not a medicine. Here's how to get the café cup it's capable of.
Froth is a technique, not just a product
The powder is designed to aerate, but you still have to help it. In order of results:
- Handheld milk frother — the Spacegoods way. Ten seconds turns it into a proper foamed latte.
- Jar shake — add the powder, a splash of hot water and lid it, then shake hard before topping up. Surprisingly good.
- Vigorous spoon stir — fine in a hurry, but you'll get less foam.
Hot, iced and everything between
- Hot: 8g, a little hot water to make a paste, then hot milk or oat milk on top.
- Iced: make the paste, top with cold milk and ice, and shake or froth.
- The flavour holds up either way, which is why it's an all-year drink.
Why the caffeine level changes how you use it
At 120mg a serving this isn't a wind-down cup — it's a genuine morning coffee. Treat it like your first coffee of the day, not your evening one, and you'll get the lift without a bedtime regret. If you're caffeine-sensitive, that number is worth knowing up front.
What's underneath the flavour
Lion's Mane, Chaga and Cordyceps plus ashwagandha and B5 give it the functional side. These are the classic focus, antioxidant-associated and endurance mushrooms; ashwagandha is the calm adaptogen. Rainbow Dust's real skill is hiding all of that under a genuinely nice flavoured latte, so you drink it because you want to, not because you should.
